Keith Matejka is a game designer, game publisher, and avid gamer out of Madison, Wisconsin. His small board gaming publishing company, Thunderworks Games, was founded in 2013 and has published three games to date: Bullfrogs, Roll Player, and Blend Off. He diesgned both Bullfrogs and Roll Player. He is married to is very supportive wife, Claire, and has a son named Isaac who he loves being a dad to.
He's always had a passion for gaming. Keith started playing board games as a child with family members and friends. Some of his childhood favorites are Survive, Scotland Yard and Rummy-O. He also had a healthy love for traditional roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons and Vampire the Masquerade. Over the years, he became more interested in video games and less in traditional gaming and started a career in the video game industry after college. He currently works at a video game developer as a Producer / Project Manager at Activision-Blizzard, one of the largest game publishers in the world on the Call of Duty franchise.
As an adult, he was re-introduced to gaming with the discovery of Puerto Rico and his obsession for tabletop gaming was reignited. He quickly learned as much as possible about these new designer boardgames and found multiple gaming groups in town to join. Gaming is a great hobby for connecting and meeting new friends and the variety of experiences available within gaming is amazing. He quickly immersed himself in the board gaming culture and soon decided to try his hand at designing his own games.
He loves all types of games. His favorite designer is Martain Wallace. Tinner's Trail, A Study in Emerald, Brass, and Automobile are is favorites from Wallace. Though, his overall favorite game is War of the Ring, as it simulates the experience of playing in JRR Tolkien's amazing world so wonderfully. He also enjoys narrative/storytelling games like Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective or Arkham Horror are a mirror of his love for great adventure novels.
Some of his favorite authors include Stephen King, RL Salvatore, Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury, and Douglas Adams.
Keith has a great love of music. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelors in music recording, as well as a minor in Radio/TV/Film. He's played guitar and bass guitar since the age of 12. During college, he taught private bass guitar lessons for a few years and occasionally still takes students. He's played in reggae, ska, jazz, hard rock, prog rock, and heavy metals bands through much of his life. His favorite bands include Opeth, In Flames, Testament, Iron Maiden, Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Dream Theater, Pantera, Our Lady Peace, Megadeth, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Machine Head, and Tool.
You can catch him at the local game store (I'm Board Games and Family Fun) every Tuesday evening playing the latest games with friends or playtesting the lastest prototype to be published under the Thuderworks Games label.
